Why In-House Alteration are Important

Oftentimes, coats come into the shop fitted in standard lengths, but as we know, not everyone is cut the same (for example, we each have different arm lengths!). Because of this, we at Gordons, alter the coat sleeves at the final fitting. We aim to have 1/4 of an inch of the shirt sleeves peeking out from underneath the coat sleeves, though some may want more or less. And, luckily, we can alter that here in the shop. The same goes for pant length, (some want them shorter or longer), and we can do this as well. During busy seasons/weeks, we have a seamstress on site Thursdays and Fridays.
Years ago, all hemming was done by hand, by experts, and each sleeve/pant would require minutes of valuable time to hand-stitch. At Gordons, we have a machine (called a Blind Stitch) that can do the same hemming in mere seconds. We simply need to line everything up, guide the cloth through the machine, and voila! Coats can be completely altered within just a few minutes, although pants take a little longer.
We have all of this in place in order to make sure you get the best fit as fast as possible, as we value our customers' time!
